LCHR wants an answer from officials…why do fathers kill their children?
Every now and then, LCHR receives news about children killed by their parents. These strange accidents motivated the researchers of LCHR to count them in the last two quarters of 2002. Researchers tried to find if there is something common between these incidents that may lead us to their reasons. In some cases traditions of the society were the reasons, such as the case of Hoda who killed her son because it was a bastard child. She loved a man but he was unable to marry her because of the economical status and the result is adultery.
In another case, at November, a mother kills her child because he is naughty! She says that she went out of temper and kept hitting the child till he fainted and died later in hospital. She said that she got divorced from the father of this child and led a stable life with the second husband. Researchers of LCHR think that the stability this mother talks about is not real and this is the real cause for the hysterical beating of her child.
In another case, a man killed his twenty years old son because of bad behaviour. The son was unemployed and thus he kept going out with other unemployed youth. When the father lost hope to stop his bad behaviour, he used an electricity wire to suffocate his child. As we can see, unemployment has terrible effects on society. In the same month, a 25 years old woman killed her child from the 65 years old man with her friend. This accident does not need a declaration. That young woman made up her mind to marry an old man who can afford her economic needs and made a relation with a young man for her other needs. The reason is economical in the first place.
In the last six months of 2002 newspapers mentioned many accidents such as:
Poisoned his child to get rid of his wife (July).
Killed his child for twenty five piaster (August).
Killed her two children because they are crying (August)
Killed her child because he smokes (August)
In addition to many other accidents
LCHR hopes that the officials will work on improving the positions of the people in Egypt and providing their social and economic rights.
