Citizens' health: between the hammer of gain, and the anvil of the governmental negligence
Land center had received complaints from tens of citizens living in different areas, where they have a common complaints; the harm because of the establishment of the mobile phones fortifying stations.
The center had received complaints from tens of residents in Sudan st., Zagazig, Sharkeyya governorate, where the residents were complaining from being harmed because of the establishment of a station for fortifying mobile network, since 7/2/2006. The harmed inhabitants have brought their situation before the ministry of environment, where a decision refusing the establishment of the station has been issued in 14/2/2006. The company that establishes the station has filed a complaint to the permanent committee of revision in the department of environment, where the case was reviewed by the committee in the session held at 6/11/2006. The committee found that the building, in which the station is built, has three illegal stories that need to be eliminated, so the committee has rebuffed the complaint submitted by the mobile company. In addition, a record has been edited against the illegal stories in than police station, Zagazig town center.
On the same issue, mails have been sent to Mr. Governor of Sharkeyya, requesting him to issue a decision for the elimination of the station, mentioned in decision No.15, 2006, but the elimination has not been implemented yet. Therefore, the residents were derived to submit complaints to the land center, requesting the elimination of the mobile station because of its lethal negative effect on health on the residents and their children.
On the same time, the center has received complaints from group of citizens living at building No.28 in Morad st., Giza, where they were describing their harms because of the establishment of a mobile station at the roof of the building, so the inhabitants of the building and their children have been injured with many serious diseases, as they were exposed to the electro-magnetic wave emitted from the station. The inhabitants have been injured with cancers, non-stop headache, blurred eyes, and so many other injuries, which is dangerous to the health of the inhabitants of the building, and their children. The inhabitants had filed many complaints, attached with it medical reports that describe their deteriorating medical situation, before many quarters, and they have filed, also, many reports before the police station, referred after that to the D.A., where the D.A. has decided to reserve the reports!! The station has not been eliminated yet.
To make it worse, the property owner has contracted for another fortifying station to be built on the same building, a matter that derived the inhabitants of the building to file a complaint before the land center and many other governmental quarters, where the inhabitants have asked, in their complaints, for their rights of a safe healthy life, and they have asked also for the elimination of the two mobile stations from the top of their building.
On the same context, the center had received complaints from farmers of Naga' El-Deyaba, Awlad Took village, Dar El-Salam town center, Souhaj Governorate. The farmers were urging for help, because one of the neighbors, who lives in the Naga', has contracted, with a mobile company, for the establishment of a network strengthening stations inside the residential bulk where their homes exist. This situation has panicked and intimidated the farmers, as they might be exposed to cancer diseases; result from the emissions released from such stations.
The land center affirms the importance of commitment to the environmental conditions, and international measurements conditioned for the establishment of mobile networks, so as to protect the health of citizens in Egypt.
The center calls upon the minister of environment, and the minister of health to quickly intervene and eliminate those stations, because those stations cause many lethal effects on the health of citizens, and because this intervention is needed for the protection the citizens' rights of health and safe life.
