Basyoun female teachers face discrimination

The LCHR has received complaints from the following female teachers:
• Ms. Soheir Shukri, first grade teacher in Naser Secondary School for Boys.
• Ms. Hanaa Ibrahim, first grade teacher in Basyoun Prep School for Boys.
• Ms. Samia Abu Humar, first grade teacher in Abu Humar Prep School for Boys.
• Ms. Maha Basawy, teacher in Ali Abu Taleb School.
• Ms. Ramzia Khater, first grade teaching instructor in Basyoun Prep School for Boys.
These schools are located in Basyoun – Gharbeya governorate, and all of these teachers have teaching experience between 15 to 20 years.
These teachers state in their complaints that their right to equality to their colleagues have been violated. As these teachers have applied to the teaching exams that would give them a chance to increase their very low salaries. They applied in the first stage, and successfully passed all the exams except for the subject of educational efficiency. 20 teachers filed complaints to the Ministry of Education to re-correct the marks of this subject, and the Ministry corrected the results and made everybody pass in this exam except for these five teachers. And these 5 teachers wonder, why weren't they treated as equal as their other colleagues, which is a violation to the law and constitution?
The LCHR calls the Minister of Education to reconsider the demands of these 5 teachers and provide them with treatment equal to their colleagues who were allowed to pass the exams.
The LCHR also calls all civil society organizations and the National Council for Women's Rights to unite in solidarity with the demands of these teachers and guarantee their right to equality.
