Who issues the decisions in Egypt? Security institutions or governmental bodies!!
The Land Center received dozens of complaints from the residents of Salahuddin Street, Echmoun - Al-Menoufiya affected by the creation of a cell phone strengthening tower after being transferred from the area inhabited by people of influence for fear of disease, especially as the people of the region are suffering from medical negligence and outbreaks of diseases of liver and kidney failure and cancer epidemic.
It should be noted that the mobile tower is situated in the middle of Echmoun market for the sale of fish, vegetables and fruit, where the municipal bakeries and nurseries are located, in spite of those groupings, the company began the construction of the tower in violation of the law and negligence of people.
The people gathered to prevent the company from completing the installation of the tower, but the company returned again to complete it, although the province of the People's Council issued a resolution on 14/1/2009, recommending not to establish a mobile phone towers within the residential block, based on the complaint submitted to the Council by (99) people apart from their families.
The Department of Environmental Affairs issued a decision on 24/7/2008 recommending not to deliver electricity to the tower for violating the law and the terms of the amended environmental Protocol, and also recommended that the management company removes the tower from the area and select another site according to the environmental requirements in the empty areas around Echmoun.
The police services summoned the residents who filed the complaints, demanding the protection of their families, to threaten and pressure them to withdraw their complaints!!
The LCHR wonders, what does the state security have to do with citizens demanding their rights to health care and protection from pollution and the negative effects on the lives of their children and their families? Despite the fact that many studies have confirmed the dangers of cell phone towers located in residential blocks on the people living there. It has been proven that exposure to mobile phone radiation could have an adverse effect on the eye, headaches, an inability to concentrate and fatigue in general. The impact of electromagnetic waves from mobile phone towers could lead to eye injury, skin burns, heart attacks, abortion, heart disorders, sleep disorders, leukemia, lymphoma and brain cancer.
The Center presents complaints on behalf of the people to the Minister of Interior, the Minister of Communications and the Monoufia Governor to issue their decisions to stop the construction of cell phone towers in Echmoun area within the residential block and transfer these towers to empty territories outside of Echmoun area. And stop threatening to arrest and imprison people for demanding their rights to participation, decent living and healthcare, and punish those who threatened the people and broke the law.
The Center calls upon the institutions of civil society and local people's congresses to work together to stop the creation of the offense and move the mobile station out of the residential block to ensure that the rights of citizens to healthcare and a safe environment.
