Women demand their right to equality
Stories of oppression of women
Mrs. Haridi Sallam from Nag'a El-Mazaleem – Qena, states that one of the big families in her area seized a piece of land that she inherited from her deceased husband. She had all the official papers that prove her ownership to the land, but the ownership claimers have friends as policemen. She filed more than 20 lawsuits claiming her right, but without any use, and she is spending a lot of money on lawyers. She wonders: what will it take to have the judges rule in her favor? She demands that she receives her land and punish the bullies who deprived her of it.
Safinaz Ahmed Hilmy from Faqous – Sharqeya, calls fro help from Fayez El-Gendy who seized her land by force. She is a widow with three children who inherited this piece of land from her deceased husband, and can't find anyone to safe her from the tyranny of this man.
Fat'heya Awwad Shalaby is a temporary teacher in Nekla school – 6th of October since 2002. she supports her 4 children in addition to her disabled husband. She is demanding her right to a regular or lasting contract as her male colleagues do, to receive a better salary plus bonuses and dues, as she is in a very bad need for such financial dues to support her family. And every time an opportunity arrives, she only has two choices, either to accept renewing her temporary contract or to have this contract canceled.
Fat'heya Reda Oqaily is 22 year old girl who has one of her legs paralyzed and the other is amputated. She lives with 4 younger sisters in Gizzaya village – Giza after her father died. She tried to look for work opportunities, but always failed, because she is a girl and she is disabled, until she decided to sell some light goods in front of the village's youth center. But some bullies and police representatives force her to pay them monthly tribute in order to leave her be. She asks the government to give her a small registered booth to sell her goods without any harassment and to support her family.
Sabah Mohamed Ahmed is a temporary teacher at El-Tawfiqeya secondary school since 1978. and she has been doing a fine job since then. And when there was an opportunity in 2008 for regular or lasting contracts for teachers, she was surprised that all of her colleagues have received notes and letters to enter the exam except for her and a number of her female colleagues. And when she sent complaints to specialized officials about it, they told her that ttheir names were not listed in the counting rolls.
The LCHR presents the complaints of these women and many more to the Prime Minister and the National Council for Women demanding them to protect and guarantee women right to equality and investigate their demands especially to safe and decent living.
LCHR also calls all civil society organizations especially those concerned with women's rights to unite in solidarity with women's demands to equality, justice and freedom.
