Mr. Minister of Irrigation Did you know that the trespassing on the lands of citizens surrounding the villages of Almnashi and Wardan in Giza governorate is for the benefit of “Hathor Land”?!
In a new trespassing on the lands and homes of citizens and the state for the benefit of some influential people and businessmen, and on an area extending from the village of Almnashi to the village of Wardan in the north of Giza. Citizens who inhabited those houses for hundreds of years were surprised by the issuance of decisions to remove their homes by the general administration of the Ministry of Irrigation without justification, except that this region, which they live in, is located alongside the farm of Hathor Land, whish is owned by a rich man, who was able, through his influence, to secure these decisions. Several weeks ago, an unofficial committee tried implementing the decisions to remove the houses, using machinery owned by the influential man. But the inhabitants, the conditions of the houses and the families inside them prevented it!!
A delegation of the inhabitants presented the problem to the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Irrigation, who promised to reconsider the removal decisions, and asserted that it is impossible to implement the removal decisions while people are still living in the houses, especially that water and electricity meters, and some public facilities are implemented within these houses, and are part of it. Despite the promises of the undersecretary of the Ministry of Irrigation, the influence of the owner of the farm of Hathor Land has made the administrative department of the city of El Kanater ignore the promises of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Irrigation and give a warning to the electricity company and the citizens, threatening them to cut the electric power from the houses if the houses were not evacuated. The matter also reached manipulating the possession records in the Property Taxes Department for the benefit of the aforementioned wealthy man.
The LCHR presents the complaints of the people to the governor of Giza and the Minister of Irrigation demanding that they investigate the facts, punish the accomplices from the various authorities, and stop the attempts to seize the lands and houses of the people and the violating of their rights to a safe possession of their homes and lands. It calls upon all civil society organizations to stand with the people of the villages north of Giza, in order to stop their evacuation and displacement, and to ensure their right to a safe possession of their lands and homes.
