A Message from Aziza Abu El Gheit to the Officials A Woman in Need for Protection and Support

My name is Aziza Abu El Gheit Saqr, I’m 50 years old and I live in Nakla village in Giza governorate. I used to live safely and decently in my home supporting my children until I was infected with cancer, then my husband Mohamed Abdel Menem Refaey was infected with the same disease that prevented him from continuing his work as a driver. Since then, we have been the center of the village’s sympathy, pity and charity. But the conditions of the village people are also very bad and getting worse, which made the people think about their own problems not ours. This made us search for any source of livelihood so that we don’t die of hunger.
I had the right to inherit a small house and one carat of land fro late father, which cold help us in these hard times. When I went to my brother demanding my share in the inheritance, he humiliated and assaulted me, refusing to give me or any of my other sisters “Marouka, Aida and Amal” our rights in our father’s inheritance. The small amount of money that we were supposed to get, could have helped us in opening a small stand that could help us and save us disgrace of asking people for support.
I asked some people to talk to my brother in this matter, but he still refuses to give me my right. After that, I presented several complaints to all officials, starting with the smallest governmental employee in the village to the President, but nobody heard my voice.
Some people advised me to go to human rights organizations that support women’s rights, which made me write you this letter, hoping that you could find a solution for my problem and convince my brother to give me my share in my father’s inheritance in order to support my family.
LCHR presents this letter to all officials and demands the Minister of Social Solidarity to give this woman an exceptional pension enough to support her and her family. LCHR also adjures women’s rights organizations to unite in solidarity with Aziza’s demands and find fast and strict legal mechanisms to give her and her sisters their right in their father’s inheritance according to the law and stop the violation of their right to a safe and decent life.
