Stop trading with our rights Small farmers are calling for help The land refuses to grow crops
While the government calls, through its programs and the statements of its officials in the newspapers, for supporting small farmers in order to develop Egyptian Agriculture and provide food for Egyptian citizens, thousands of farmers, in the area of El-Shaed Maden Kasam canal and its Sinai branch, are suffering from being ignored by the various governmental bodies, particularly the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation. The various governmental bodies are not supporting their rights, after they received small pieces of land for the propose of reclaiming them. According to the complaints of the farmers, they have tried, since receiving the land seven years ago, to wash salt with the land without any guidance or direction from the Ministry of Agriculture, they also failed to make any irrigation hoses, due to the alkaline of the land and the erosion of the hoses. The land reclamation body has issued recently a decision which forbids the renewal of their land possession cards or providing them with their fertilizer shares except after they pay their due installments.
The Land Center for Human Rights submits the complaints of the farmers to the Ministry of Irrigation, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Construction Body of Sinai, demanding that they fulfill the legitimate demands of the farmers, for the sake of the State's role in ensuring the rights of farmers, the development of the agriculture sector, and the reconstruction of Sinai. The LCHR also demands that the civil society organizations unite in solidarity with the demands of the farmers in order to support their right to a safe possession of their agriculture land and a decent living.
