Communiqué to the Attorney General... The killer did not enter custody and is enjoying freedom!
The Land Center received a complaint of some citizens from Beni Moussa - Damanhour – Behira governorate, which stated, "We are the sons of the killed Rajab Ibrahim Juma Sabbagh, who was murdered when was shot by officer Ahmed Mohamed El Sayed Hassouna
"When we went to inquire about what has happened, we learned that a report was edited on the incident and the officer was released on bail five hundred pounds, we were not able to see the record till today despite the passage of nearly two months on the accident that occurred on 5/4/2008 before the courts compound in Damanhour. We heard that the officer brought the witnesses to the incident, and they were the driver of his car and one of his fellow officers exempting him from any responsibility.
The sons of the murdered man wonder in the complaint "How could the killer be blessed with freedom as if nothing happened and an innocent person didn’t die of gun fire, where is the justice in this? And how can we enjoy sleeping while seeing the killer walking freely before the Court Complex without taking any punitive sanctions against him by the officials?”
The sons assert in their complaint that the doctors in Damanhour educational hospital had abused them and refused to surrender their father's body only after several days, also refused to extradite the medical reports confirming the killing, also the police and prosecutors reject to give them any information about the incident pretext of non-completion of investigations and that the case is still under investigation!
The LCHR regrets the recurrence of such incidents as a result of mistake, negligence or reckless actions of some police officers against the rights of citizens as they are responsible for their safety and protection – how could the officer kill whom he is protecting?
The complaints state that the sons of the killed man have received threats from the officer to arrest them if they complain to any party.
The Center presents these complaints to the officials on behalf of these people, demanding the Attorney General to monitor and follow up the investigation of the killing of citizen Rajab Ibrahim Juma, re-hear the testimony of the witnesses and the sons of the killed, and take the necessary legal steps and procedures to respect the provisions of the law to ensure that Safety of all citizens.
LCHR also demands that the Interior Minister punishes the officer in question and stop his threatening to the family of the killed to ensure their right to safety in respect for their human rights stated in the Constitution and international covenants of human rights.
