Mr. President of the Egyptian Government Farmers on the Dom island eat tree leafs
South of Egypt, El Dom Island, Naga Hammadi - Qena, more than 50 families were evicted from their agricultural lands having suffered a major effort in the cultivation and reclamation of their lands.
Farmers say in their complaint to the center "a new project in Qanater took over our territory, which has an area of 350 acres, which we have farmed since our ancestors where we produced wheat, barley, corn, and we eat and our children and livestock without charging the state anything"
They affirm that "the land has become the ownership of the Ministry of Irrigation without knowing why, the officials said that they will give us land again after improvement but the ministry employees treat us as if they were soldiers of the occupation violating our rights, arbitrary and summary spiteful to liberate the police to arrest us, and humiliate us although we have only cultivated our lands"
The farmers say "that they do not find today's bread and their livestock have died from hunger, and they were surprised with the intention of the Ministry of Irrigation to cultivate their lands with trees for the promenade and reception of officials standing in a garden worthy of their careers,"
The Center confirms that the decision would negatively affect the farmers in the Dom island, especially their economic, social, health and educational conditions of the children and women of the island which is a violation of the law and international covenants of human rights which obliges the state sponsorship of its citizens and ensuring their human rights, and the center is considers the peasant partners in sharing wealth in accordance with the provisions of the constitution and human development reports and the last in which the Prime Minister stated that citizens are partners in wealth and power under the Constitution and law, which the resolution is contrary to the provisions of the Constitution, which guaranteed citizens the right to a fair distribution of wealth.
The Center presents the complaints of the peasants demanding the Prime Minister and Ministers of Irrigation and Agriculture to issue their decisions to peasants ownership of the Dom Island land in Naga Hammadi with the rate of two acres for each family so that they can have decent housing and decent life in Egypt.
