The twentieth conference of the International Federation For The Education of Workers Criticizes the negative effects of free-trade policies & demands the education and organization of labor in the informal sector

 

The twentieth conference of the International Federation of Workers’ Education Organizations, which includes in its membership one hundred and four workers’ training organizations from sixty five states in Africa, Asia and Latin America as well as Europe and the Arab region, was held in the city of Ahmedabad, India.
At the closing session the conference issued a resolution in solidarity with the House of Syndicate Services and its members. The conference demanded its members to send requests to the Egyptian government and President Hosni Mubarak in the context of supporting the House and its General Coordinator, against the arbitrary actions taken by the Egyptian government, which affected its activities and the activities of its branches. On the Margin of the conference, the General Conference of the International Federation of Workers’ Education Organizations In The Arab Countries, which includes 17 organizations from eight Arab countries, was held On 5-6 December. During the two days the strategic plans and objectives of the federation were discussed, and a lot of controversy was raised about the role of the Executive Committee and secretary of the Federation, especially that the Arab federation is registered as a branch of the International Federation.
The budget of the Arab federation was also discussed, and the participants made their observations. A representative of each country was chosen for the Executive Committee, and the Land Center for Human Rights was chosen as a the representative for Egypt in the Executive Committee. In the sessions discussions were made about the need to develop a common understanding on the assessment, training and developing of workers’ education programs, for the sake of improving their situation, facing the negative effects of the policies of free trade, activating the role of the General Assembly and the Executive Committee and the necessity of solidarity, cooperation and the exchange of information and experiences between the members, in order to educate workers and support their rights in the informal sector.
In a festive and friendly atmosphere the members of the Conference of the International Federation left, shouting for the rights of workers to a better world, a safe future, and a more just and human tomorrow, that respects and ensures the rights of workers to a decent work, safety, justice and freedom.
