LCHR demands the Prime Minister to cancel the decision made by the Minister of Electricity & Power that violate the law of National Associations

LCHR has received a complaint from El Kagooh Charity Association. It is a not for profit national association established according to the law of national associations no. 84 for the year 2002, and it has obtained a declaration no. 437 from the Ministry of Social Affairs.
The association complains about the decision made by the Ministry of Electricity & Power to cancel the exemption stated in the law of national associations regarding the water, gas and electricity consumptions, which is a violation to the law of national associations, as this law states some privileges for national associations, like having 50% discounts on the bills for their water, electricity and gas consumption, which are produced by any governmental body.
This decision obligates the association to pay the whole electricity, water and gas bills in full or these services will be cut. Since this is a non-profit association that provides services for free and serves a wide sector of citizens who need services like medication, work opportunities, professional training, family support and many other social, cultural, civil and economic services, it must have its right in such an exemption, as such a decision hinders some of the work and activities of such associations especially in rural areas.
The strange thing is that this decision is not applied on sports clubs, like El Jazira, El Seid and El Zohour, which reveals an unjustified discrimination.
The LCHR is preparing a challenge to be presented before the administrative judiciary court to cancel this decision that violates the law.
The LCHR has presented complaints to the Prime Minister, the Minister of Social Solidarity and the Minister Electricity and Power to stop the implementation of the decision issued by the Ministry of Electricity & Power to support national associations and respect the Rule of the Law.
