Women in Kafr El Faraina have no rights
Fawqeya and Suad who live in Kafr El Faraina – Monofeya governorate have inherited their father's land of 9 karats. As their father has applied to buy a piece of land according to law no. 3 for the year 1986. He paid part of the installments and his two daughters paid the rest after his death. They paid the last installment on 1/6/2006, which make them now owners of their land and the agrarian reform corporation must issue an ownership contract for them. But they were surprised with one of the village people called Sayed Hesein claiming the ownership of their land colluding with their brother.
This piece of land is their only source of income, but their brother is threatening and terrorizing them with the help of some thugs to leave their land to the ownership claimer.
LCHR sees that the issue of agrarian land in the agrarian reform corporation needs a legislative interference to issue a new law that provides ownership of agrarian lands to those who farm these lands and have possession over them, to guarantee social safety in the Egyptian countryside. As these people are worthier of owning the lands that they have been reclaiming and farming for decades. This is to protect them and their families from displacement, to protect our agrarian wealth and protect women and their right to decent living.
LCHR presented the complaints of these two women to the Minister of Agriculture and the Minister of the Interior demanding them to issue these women an ownership contract of their land and to protect them from the thugs.
LCHR also calls all CSOs concerned with women's rights to unite in solidarity with the demands of these women to guarantee their rights to safe land possession and decent living.
