While the people are welcoming the new school year, a member of the Consultative Council tears down a school

On Thursday 14/9/2006, the people of El Tall Street – Warrak – Giza governorate were surprised with bulldozers accompanied by some thugs attacking El Ettihad El Watany School and tearing it down. The people gathered and chased away the bulldozers and the thugs.
When we asked the people, they said that they were wondering if they were in Egypt or in Iraq, who dares to tear down a school? The news has spread and the police forces arrived with some members of the local council, and the people knew that a member of the Consultative Council has obtained a decision to remove this school, claiming that it is built on his land. The people were wondering if this land is his, then why didn't he try to retrieve it legally through the specialized authorities? Why didn't he inform the corporation for school buildings so that it could transfer the students to other schools during the school holiday? This man must be prosecuted for tearing down the school a few days before the start of the school year, and for insulting and assaulting the policemen when they tried to stop him, as he was depending on his influence and immunity as a member of the Consultative Council.
A big group of the students' parents have gathered inside the school protesting against this action, which made the Giza governor issue a decision to stop the tearing down process.
The LCHR presents the complaints of some parents to the head of the Consultative Council and the Giza governor demanding them to protect the teachers and students from the oppression and violations of this Consultative Council member and his thugs. It also demands them to make the necessary legal procedures to prosecute him for the transgression of his duties and violating the rule of the law, in order to guarantee students rights to education and safety.
