The gathering of El Hurreya farmers in front of the Ministry of Agriculture has resulted into promising them to receive alternative lands in three months
Yesterday at 10 pm, more than 60 farmers from El Hurreya village – Dekernes – Daqahleya governorate have gathered in front of the Ministry of Agriculture because of their eviction out of their lands after the implementation of law no. 96 for the year 1992 and didn't receive alternative lands yet.
Mr. Hesein Mohamed Gheneimah the under secretary of the Ministry along with Mr. Shawqi Abdul Aleem Musa member of the People's Assembly for Dekernes constituency have met the farmers and agreed to finalize the procedures to give them alternative lands, in order to save more than 120 families from displacement. The under secretary has promised to provide these farmers with alternative lands in three months, and he has assigned Eng. Mahmoud Abdul Barr and Eng. Mohamed Gomah to handle this matter.
There were several journalists present to cover this event, and they have made some interviews with these farmers about their problems and the effects of implementing this law on their livelihood conditions.
After the meeting, the farmers returned to their village and formed a committee of some lawyers, a member of the People's Assembly and some farmer leaders to follow up the implementation of the promise of the under secretary.
