The Land Center for Human Rights held a workshop entitled "Farmers, fertilizer and ownership of agricultural land," attended by (72) participants from the boards of unions of small farmers in addition to a number of journalists and human rights activists and researchers. The workshop aimed to activate the role of trade unions to resolve the problems of farmers in general, especially the problems of manure and ownership of state lands to small farmers with a view to close cooperation between the farming unions to unify efforts and support the rights of small farmers in the safety and decent living.
The first session was chaired by Mr. Abdul Aziz Jamaluddin, "Egyptian historian" and Dr. Osama Bedier, researcher and advisor to the center", about the crisis of fertilizers in terms of the unavailability of the farmer and his arrival at double the price of the original
Bedier pointed out that the crisis of fertilizers in Egypt is considered one of the most important crises that recur every year and severity vary from year to year, where the gravity of this crisis lies in the association directly and close one of the important sectors in the national economy
He pointed out that the crisis of fertilizer is a crisis artificial, where Egypt produces more than double its annual amount to support the fertilizer, which the state provides more than 1.6 billion pounds a year stealing from traders and big companies and some government employees in more than twenty years and pointed out the fact that crisis and the reasons for vexatious and its outskirts, where explained that the prices of chemical fertilizers in Egypt vary from one region to another as a result of supply shortages, and bottlenecks occur during the summer period due to increased demand for nitrogenous fertilizers and due to the low price, on the other hand, the demand for buying chemical fertilizers begin in months of May and June and July, while mid- August
He also explained that the parties to this crisis is the Bank for Development and Agricultural Credit, which controls 35% of the production of chemical fertilizers in Egypt and the same for dealers and the remaining 30% of the agricultural associations.
He pointed out that dealing with the crisis of chemical fertilizers in Egypt in general was walking always in accordance with the decisions after the occurrence of any dimensionality of the crisis and aggravation, and increase intensity
He also stressed the need to take action to remedy this crisis, recurring year after year, in addition to work on passing a law that regulates trading in commodities, and the need to reconsider the system of distribution and control for nitrogenous fertilizers in accordance with the provision of basic needs of the local market of fertilizers with the importance of concerted efforts to eliminate the artificial crisis of fertilizers in Egypt, which boasts an annual output of about 18 million tons of domestic consumption does not exceed 9 million tons per year
He asked in the end the ability of entities nascent trade unions in this revolutionary momentum witnessed by the Egyptian society to exercise an active role in solving the economic problems associated with agricultural work suffers from Egyptian farmer for more than 30 years?!
Interventions stressed the need for the unions, the role of agricultural pressure on the state agencies to deliver the trade fertilizer for distribution to farmers substitute for thieves who are causing the crisis in each year, and traded the rights of farmers and food of the Egyptians.
The second session was about the ownership of state land owned by the bodies of Awqaf and reform and state property to small farmers and the session was chaired by Mr. Abdullah Al-maamoon, "researcher at the land Centre and a human rights activist". Mr. Mohamed Hijazi, a lawyer and Chairman of the Society of rural friendship" and he presented a paper entitled "The Land is for those who farmed it... farmers together to restore the stolen land".

He also stressed the importance of operating a small-scale farmers in agricultural and reclaimed land, and the distribution of land to them by three or five acres to ensure secure land tenure, the right to use in the agricultural eye, the single purpose of "agriculture" To ensure the sustainability of the resource and preserve it He stressed that solving the problem of agricultural labor and an end to the problems of farmers with the State, whether the land owned by the endowments of land to reform the old, as well as the new land, desert, and have codified these holdings to them, and become their holdings to secure tenure, provided the provision of water and seeds and tools for agricultural production to the area of this land He pointed to the role of trade unions farming, where it must be the expansion of its membership base, and looking for a mechanism to get these state-owned land for the benefit of its members, and work to develop a secure system for the acquisition of agricultural and regulate such situations through the agricultural unions, and that these unions are the main negotiator in the agreements between small farmers and the state, and that is working to transfer possession of these lands to those who meet the conditions, if abandoned by a holder; the lost one of these conditions or trying to grab more than its share one way or another, and that is activating the role of trade unions of farming called for re- distribution of land to small farmers at this stage And between participants in interventions that farmers are more entitled to own land instead of the thieves who looted the country, and that farmers will maintain the land resource for future generations and will believe in healthy food for all Egyptians. Took place at the third and last on how to activate the role of trade unions to find solutions for each of the problem of manure and the problem of land titling and the session was moderated by Mr. Magdy Abdel-Fattah, "researcher and human rights activist" and the session was a discussion open to participants about the proposals to resolve the problems of farmers in general and the settled opinion of everyone in the eventually the need to form the Federation of Trade Unions of agricultural to defend the rights of small farmers has been agreed on the list of the basic system of the Federation and includes objectives, activities and conditions of membership and accession and withdrawal free and guarantee the independence of the Union and give the Assembly the supreme authority and the elections board and passed the general assembly of present regulations and the meeting of the Board of Directors first.
