69 Problems of Egyptian labourers – 2003 On Friday 21st Nov, LCHR cooperated with Justice Center for Social and Political Studies in organizing training workshop entitled “for integrated report about labourers’ conditions in 2003”. The workshop comprised more than 100 participants (activists, leaders, politicians, journalists, and labourers from different provinces). In the beginning, Mr. Mahmoud Gaber from LCHR and Mr. Ahmed Kamel from Justice Center spoke about the sudden pass away of the struggler and how his recommendations and speeches are still alive in spite of his death that he adopted the conflict against the unjust policies that abuse the poor and marginalized groups locally, nationally and internationally. The first session was presented by Mr. Ahmed Sharaf “lawyer”, who spoke about the modernized cases in the new unified labour law. At the end, the Executive Director of LCHR mentioned that the Egyptian government succeeded in issuing the new labour law after long discussion along nine years despite the resistive campaigns directed by civil society organizations, companies, factories, journals, parties and opposite forces. This law matches with the policy of the Egyptian economy that leads for more privatization was accompanied with more violations against labourers in all sectors. The workshop ended with the participants’ recommendations around asking the centre to continue monitoring labourers’ protests throughout 2003. They called the centre to make use of the data rose through workshop in the report as the information concerning the legal problems resulted by the implementation o the new law. |
