59 Fishermen’ problems in Ghiet el Nasarey village, Damita province It was held on Tuesday 19th August around fishermen in Ghiet el Nasarey village, Damita province. It lies on el Manzala Lake, where most inhabitants work with fishing. Those fishermen face many problems as a result to lake drainage to be sold as building lands by businessmen. Such violations destroy vast areas and affect negatively fishermen’s incomes. Moreover, vast area of the lake is transformed to be private fishing farms, whose owners control the surrounding area in addition to preventing fishermen to fish. Fishermen mention that the businessman who owns 100 fedens seizes 1000 fedens. In spite of the complains and lawsuits presented by fishermen in addition to the issuance of many sentence around removing these farms, nothing is achieved. The centre wishes if it would apply joint activities with those fishermen regarding awareness, training and legal support. |
