Land’s call for Doha conference
No for peoples’ poverty
Land Center for Human Rights is an Egyptian non-governmental organization that works in the field of social and economical rights in addition to its defense for farmers’ rights in Egypt. It was established in 1996 that was synchronous with implementation of farm lease act, which seems as negative aspect of globalization and trade freedom. This law violates farmers’ rights in safe possession, food and equalization.
Through this conflict, the center chooses to be in the side of poor farmers, who are victims of new policies that adopt undemocratic economical mechanisms. Moreover, it chooses to be in the side of development depending on the principle of social justice and international. Charters and declarations that protect social and economical rights.
Through our activities with farmers, we discover numerous obstacles and violations for human rights that are resulted by implementation of policies of market freedom. These obstacles are;
¨ Globalization’s policies concerning agricultural sector lead to deprivation of millions of farmers all over the world from their right in safe possession through which they achieve their social and economical safety. Millions of farmers’ farms and houses are evicted by force through which many victims fall down through their struggling against globalization’s policies, which waste million fedens of farms.
¨ These policies that determine prices of agricultural products, benefits, credit and fines, lead to decreasing of farmers’ incomes all over the world in addition to increasing of unemployment proportions in the countryside. These policies create new model of development that is called impossible development, which lead to vagrancy and imprisonment of millions of farmers that is because of their debts.
¨ These policies impose new developmental forms, which affect negatively on social and economical conditions of producers of the third world countries, who face the wild market that consists of multi- nationalities companies with their small projects that leads to their imprisoning.
¨ These new policies “globalization” apply its mechanisms in the third world countries that obstacle their participation through which they have no opportunity to refuse or amend it. It is observed that abilities of social categories that are affected by these policies aren’t existed that these mechanisms are executed by force and subjugation.
¨ Through the universal competition, social and economical human rights are violated that millions of farmers and labors in the third world countries bear bill of implementation of new policies. Moreover, the health, work, housing and educational conditions are affected negatively.
Although Land Center is a local organization, it considers itself as a part of the new universal movement that aims to create more humanistic world. Consequently, the center asks all individuals, associations and social forces to be in solidarity to create new world that is free from poverty and oppression. We ask all local and international organizations that are interested in social and economical human rights to work together against aspects of globalization that builds its system relaying on violations of social and economical rights of millions of poor people all over the world. These policies don’t agree with the humanistic charters of the United Nations that save safe life for all people. We ask all of you to raise this call for all participants in Doha conference to ask them to stop the dominant policies by applying market’s laws in all sectors especially in the fields concerning main needs of people like food, water, health, education, housing and work opportunities in order to achieve justice and equalization.
