Fishermen's syndicate in Kafr El-Sheikh
demands the ownership of fish farms territory to protect it from wasting and to develop the fishing sector and the protection of the rights of small-scale fishermen
The Land Centre held a meeting in the village of Abu Khashaba with the members of the Board of Directors of the Independent Fishermen Association on 12/06/2011 and discussed the problems faced by fishermen the sea and the river in the village and surrounding villages, and discussed with them how to claim the right of use of land property of the State, which borders their villages and put their hand out and eligibility of the progress different views of the contracts for the Liberation of use of the union and the establishment of fishermen fish farms on those vast spaces. And eligibility in the delivery of the various parties to extend the watermelon canal to those territories to be able to process fish farming and disinfection of farms to be built.
It is worth mentioning that the union has in recent weeks, several activities to serve the people of the village and the region, including a youth center after obtaining the decision to allocate to maintain the establishment on 5 acres in the village, is also seeking the union to give the right of fishing license for fishermen in collaboration with the Fisheries and Fisheries, and demands that the union should be modified the law no.124 on the development of fisheries to enable the Independent Trade Unions of small-scale fishers and the management of fishing operation, stop the looting of farms and fisheries by the remnants of the former regime who assassinated the sea, lakes and river water with the complicity of corrupt influential people and leaders of the defunct National Party.
Dr. Abeer Badran from The Land Center spoke in the meeting about the importance of joint work between the independent trade unions of fishermen during the coming period so as to force the authorities to meet the needs of small-scale fishermen and the development of their own capacities as Egyptians have the right to manage their resources and their country and participate in the sharing of wealth and power in our guarded Egypt.
