The farmers of Kafr el-algareda are threatened to be evicted from their Land

On 21/5/2007 the LCHR held a symposium in the village of Kafr el-algareda, Kafr el-Sheikh Governorate. 40 farmers, who are threatened to be evacuated from heir land, which were given to them by the agrarian reform body in the sixties, have attended the meeting. After giving the lands to he farmers, the agrarian reform body has issued another resolution hat gives the land to a property claimer. The symposium discussed the different aspects of the problem, in addition to discussing the role of the agricultural and national associations in supporting the rights of farmers. The symposium also discussed the legal ways by which to put pressure on the ministry of agriculture to review it’s decisions about giving the farmers their land. A work plan was set up during the symposium to raise the public awareness about the problem. The participants agreed on the necessity for other meetings to follow up on the problem, with the LCHR as a coordinator, so that the farmers may guarantee their right to safe farming and good living.
