The free trade policies and their impacts on alimentation, Naga Hammady – Quena “symposium” 12th of November 2005

The LCHR has held a symposium under the title of “- The free trade policies and their impacts on alimentation” in Naga Hammady – Quena on the 12th of November 2005. The lecturers exposed the impacts of the freedom given to some companies to modify crops genetically and then to monopolize them relating this to the security of alimentation and how those companies seek to control the world market for seeds. The discussions included a display of the farmers’ problems especially the ones farming exportation crops where some European countries have limited the amounts they import from the Egyptian crops which endangers the farmers working in this field. The crops, which the European countries refuse to allow into its markets, are destroyed and the financial loss falls upon the Egyptian farmers. The participants have highlighted the importance of agricultural guidance that should be organized by the government to foresee the needs of the international markets, as well as the application of fair policies by the developed countries especially in the field of agriculture.
