LCHR's call, Food security and fair trade must be provided, No for pauperization A safer world is a common responsibility

The LCHR is holding a campaign about facing the WTO's unfair policies imposed on southern countries, as it will hold its' sixth ministerial meeting in Hong Kong from 13 till 18 December 2005, which will require more efforts, strive and coordination among NGOs to guarantee people's human rights and achieve justice between the northern and southern countries, as about one quarter of the aid provided by the big countries reach the poor countries through developmental programs, while the other three quarters are returned to the governments of the big countries in many ways.
The LCHR sees that the unfair trade policies followed by the big countries hold back the growth of the poor countries, as numbers confirm that the exports of African countries south of the desert where 689 million people live are considered less than the exports of other countries such as Belgium where less than 10 million people live. Will the big countries meeting in Hong Kong give up their unfair trade policies to decrease the gap between the northern and southern countries and stop the increase of poverty and hunger all over the world.
The LCHR confirms that the governments of the big countries must provide enough concessions about financing agrarian exports to support rural development and improve farmers economic and social conditions in the south by supporting farmers, small industries and sustainable development. The LCHR would like to express its' solidarity with the demands of international NGOs interested in farmers issues who suffer of the policies of Multinational Companies that control the markets, which violate farmers rights in safe land possession, food sovereignty and decent living and negatively effect ther economic and social conditions.
The LCHR sees that these policies have led to the deprivation of millions of farmers of their rights in safe land possession, as these policies have resulted into evicting millions of farmers out of their lands and homes by force, many of them have died defending their rights, millions of acres (feddans) of lands have ben ruined and stagnated and a big part of the natural resources have been wasted, which have led to the decrease of farmers incomes and the increase of unemployment in rural areas.
The LCHR refuses the imposition of trade and development models on southern countries which harm their conditions, as their small projects face the savage markets of MLCs. The LCHR confirms that the participation of the social forces effected by these policies in parliaments, the media and decision making centers rarely exist. These policis are also implemented by force most o the times. There will be bad consequences if the implementation of these trade policies and agreements continue because they violate the right of the poor in food sovereignty and the deterioration of natural resources.
The current trade policies and WTO situation cannot solve the problems of worldwide poverty and hunger, improve living conditions and guarantee health and educational services. The LCHR confirms its' solidarity with the demands of the world social movements and calls all CSOs to work together in facing the negative effects of these unfair trade policies and agreements that violate the rights of farmers and the marginalized and poor people, and unite with solidarity with the campaign of international organizations interested in improving the people's economic, social and civil rights.
We call all NGOs and CSOs worldwide to unite with us in solidarity and guarantee human rights for all the people, eliminate poverty and totalitarianism and make a world where everyone participates in making their destinies for a better, more just and humane world.
